The Pelia artisan olive oil is grown in the Epidavros region of the Peloponnese and is some of the best Greek olive oil available. The Manaki olives produce a very fresh and grassy olive oil with a very delicate flavour and a smooth aftertaste that does not burn the throat. Use the oil in breads, for general cooking, kneading and of course, on salads.
Pelia was started in 2011 to develop a market for artisan Greek olive oil grown from some of the finest family-owned olive groves in Greece. The majority of Greek-grown olive oil comes from old but very small groves of 50-500 trees - too small for individual businesses and so the majority is used locally with the remainder taken by traders for blending in Italy.
Pelia has developed its own press and storage facility - on a small scale - where they are getting to know the individual farmers as they come to have their olives pressed and sell the oil as it is produced to Pelia, at a slight premium to ensure a fair price is paid for their premium product.
