A really beautifully made circular wooden block made from maple hardwood by Michigan Maple, one of the oldest manufacturers of chopping boards and butchers' blocks in US. This board, measuring 15" across and 2" thick (38cm across by 5cm thick) is heavy and tough, designed for cutting chopping and even cleaving, it will last a life-time. Made using maple grown on Michigan Maple's own land, the board is made from laminated end-grain, that is, the board is made from lots of short pieces with grain set vertically like traditional butchers' blocks. It makes the wood extremely tough and hard-wearing. Caring for any high-quality wooden product is very similar: do not immerse it in water, but instead wipe it with a cloth. The block will benefit from being treated to a think coat of a quality beeswax polish or food-grade oil from time to time.
