Vanessa Kimbell's (aka the Sourdough Queen) has created this kit for everything you need to make your first sourdough loaf. Naturally Vanessa's beautiful recipe book is included (recent The Telegraph book of the week) all about ethical and sustainable everyday food, which has a detailed recipe for her well-known sustainable sourdough boule.
The kit includes some of Vanessa's favourite ingredients including Mulino Marino Burrato flour. She says "It is one of my favourite flours as it provides a flavoursome, moist, and chewy crumb with a fantastic flavour. The Burrato is organic and is milled in traditional stoneground mill in Piedmont area of Italy and sieved through a traditional cheesecloth, allowing it to retain strong microbiological properties which helps to produce a good loaf." It also includes a bottle of the delightful Pelia Extra Virgin Olive Oil which is produced by a small Greek cooperative. With beautifully grassy, peppery notes, this oil is excellent in salads and we like to use it on hands and surfaces when kneading dough.
One of the items in the kit is Vanessa's fresh sourdough starter. It will keep for 10 days in the before it needs to be refreshed so if you have bought it as a present, keep it in the fridge for as long as you can before putting it under the tree or posting it.
In addition to the book, oil, flour and sourdough starter is a popular infra-red thermometer for ensuring the correct water temperature, a proving basket to hold the proving dough, a lame (grignette) to score the dough before it is baked, a dough scraper for a multitude of baking uses, a bread bag, bread bin and Cornish seasalt.
This kit makes an ideal gift for any budding baker starting from scratch looking to make a great loaf.
